Network Planning Engineer
Remote - Successful candidate must live in a state in which Point Broadband operates (AL, GA, MD, MI, OH, TN, TX, or VA)

 

Summary:

Point Broadband is looking for an experienced telecommunications professional with proven expertise in network planning and optimization, project management, vendor management, and delivering efficiencies in cost management. The successful candidate will have experience in spend elimination/reduction through internal/external disputes, disco by discovery, vendor/customer renewals and large-scale renewal agreement planning, and NNI Optimization and consolidation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of route design, network capacity management, and long-range network planning for Metro and Long-Haul networks
  • Direct interface to external communications vendors for circuit ordering, provisioning and installation coordination
  • Manage databases of contract terms, billing, and customer/vendor interfaces
  • Collaborate with other planning disciplines in preparing and prioritizing project plans to address opportunity requirements in the most cost effective and commercially successful manner
  • Prioritize Project Feasibility Analysis - Evaluating multiple project concepts and opportunities and managing multiple projects in various stages of completion
  • Analyzes and identifies optimization opportunities to groom, replace or renew circuits for the existing customer base
  • Review customer renewal proposals as provided by Sales and action to achieve or exceed expected target savings
  • Ensure monthly and annual network cost savings are archived in order to meet department and corporate financial objectives
  • Management of circuit grooms resulting from cost savings initiatives, site decommissioning and network consolidations
  • Maintains accurate network elements and circuit entrance facility management inventories in provisioning databases and/or excel spreadsheets so that technical and provisioning personnel can utilize and rely on to complete their own duties
  • Develops and distributes weekly report on capacity utilization monitoring for entrance facilities. Identifies and recommends where and when augments or reductions are required
  • Assist in researching billing disputes and provide documentation for network cost department as required. Update monthly price increases as received per vendor notifications. Adjust monthly pricing as it relates to expired vendor ramp terms or specific commitment levels
  • Assess the probability of revenue and/or cost leakage based on defined tolerance levels, and takes appropriate actions
  • Understands and implements traffic analysis and studies for long term planning
  • Works closely with production engineering for MACD planning on the production network, collocation sites and datacenters
  • Possesses the skill set to produce monthly reporting on cost, utilization, term renewals, etc.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

10+ years of relevant telecommunications experience including expense management / network planning / vendor management / capacity managament roles

  • Strong understanding of complex provisioning functions and Project Management
  • Experience in order coordination in a high paced, process-oriented organization
  • Strong time management and complex task organization skills
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet, MPLS, SDH, SONET, TDM, VPLS, QOS, VoIP
  • Experience with telecom vendor portals, data and ordering processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Ability to effectively work with all levels throughout the organization and motivate others
  • Possess a professional attitude and work ethic in addition to being well organized and efficient
  • Ability to deal with unforeseen situations and come up with logical solutions to these problems without outside instruction
