Summary:

Point Broadband is looking to hire a Network Operations Systems Specialist as a part of our Network Operations team. The position will help support Point Broadband’s Access, Metro and Core networks to drive increased reliability and carrier class uptime. This person will be key in assisting the team build and grow a carrier class service provider network.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Responsible for supporting Point Broadband’s access, metro and core networks along with other Network Operations team members to collectively provide 24/7 coverage.
  • Perform routine proactive alarm management and analysis.
  • Manage change for all network systems and equipment and identify operational impact.
  • Analyze and report on network traffic trends and capacity.
  • Responsible for working with internal groups and external partners in the acceptance testing, and production implementation for transport circuits.
  • Lead and coordinate with vendors to support Point during critical network outages and network upgrades.
  • Prepare written reports and other technical documentation necessary to communicate ideas, postmortems, opportunities for improvement, etc.
  • Analyze chronic network imperfections for root cause source and recommend any appropriate corrective actions. Implement fix/correction as directed.
  • Identify and perform regular system maintenance to network elements and systems.
  • Provide routing escalation support for all Metro and Backbone network elements
  • Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or Applied Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or five years military and/or industrial Engineering experience.
  • Operational experience of multi-gigabit transport networks is preferred.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills and a customer-centric attitude.
  • 2 years of Service Provider network experience preferred.
  • Recent work history with commercial networks and the various components included
  • Recent network operations or support experience in a related field.
  • Routing (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP) and switching expertise
  • General understanding of Internet and datacenter topologies
  • Experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of network equipment especially Juniper, Cisco, Brocade, and Alcatel-Lucent - solid understanding of associated vendor hardware architecture and characteristics

 

Computer Skills:

  • High level understanding of various broadband deployment methods: FTTX, Active Ethernet, Fixed Wireless etc.
  • Knowledge with the configuration of Juniper/Cisco routers, switches, mux’s, in an ISP or enterprise environment.
  • Thorough understanding of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: VLANs, TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols.
  • Experience with MPLS-based services, QOS, BFD, LACP, VRRP, STP, etc. is a plus.
  • General understanding of Internet Protocols and interior/exterior routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Multicast, IPv6)
  • General understanding of ACLs, prefix lists, and firewalls
  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and IP Management
