Principal Network Engineer
Remote - Successful candidate must live in a state in which Point Broadband operates (AL, FL, GA, MD, MI, OH, TN, TX, or VA)

Summary:

As a Principal Network Engineer at Point Broadband your responsibilities will be network design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and training.

Essential Job Functions:

• Oversee the architecture and performance of the Point Broadband regional service provider network
• Evaluate leading and emerging technologies including automation, software-defined networking, machine learning, advanced routing architectures, and DDOS mitigation strategies
• Champion architectures to meet current and future engineering, systems, and development requirements. Lead in the design, deployment, and documentation of these technologies
• Develop new initiatives to simplify, optimize, standardize, and automate network designs. Create tooling to enhance operations, shorten implementation cycle, reduce service downtime, improve performance, and ensure that all security and compliance requirements are fully governed
• Research and devise innovative proof-of-concept simulations of potential internal and external products for consideration by Product Management and Architecture leadership
• Drive automation across all aspects of network engineering
• Collaborate in the development of the company’s technology roadmap. Support the Product Managers to develop and support new product strategies and enhance existing service offerings
• Provide training and knowledge transfer for engineering to support new technologies and improve operational efficiencies
• Travel to project sites and job areas as required
• Participate in a team environment, providing valuable input as an access subject matter expert within the team

Education/Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience as a network engineer or architect in a telecommunications service provider network with significant and demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supporting large scale multi-protocol networks
• Must be a creative thinker and able to solve complex problems
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of service provider, data center, wireless, and security strategies. Experienced with design and support of both geographically dispersed and significantly sized deployments
• Superior knowledge of Internet architectures, WAN routing, LAN switching, and packet tracing
• Advanced knowledge of protocols such as IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing is a plus
• Advanced Knowledge of FTTH services (DHCP, DNS, CGN, BNG, SIP)
• Advanced Knowledge of access technologies (xPON, Active Ethernet, FWA)
• Knowledge of Network Infrastructure automation, Infrastructure as code, Ansible
• Demonstrated ability to manage large scale projects to include project planning, project management, and reporting
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
