Manager, Construction / Engineering (Outside Plant)

Directs activities of workers concerned with implementing various engineering activities and construction projects by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Evaluates specifications to plan procedures, starting and completion times, and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
  • Orders procurement of tools, equipment, and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Directs subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Manages supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.
  • Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
  • Conducts construction activities within federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education/Experience
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to five years  related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
