Summary:

Point Broadband is currently seeking a Director of Network Operations to join our team that is keenly focused on providing the best possible reliability and stability of our network and systems through configuration, change and incident management and deep network automation and network intelligence efforts. This person will build a highly technical operations team to own the day to day running of the entire service provider network. Point Broadband is focused on creating an exceptional customer experience and this role is critical in that effort as we build a highly automated and robust software driven network ecosystem.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obsess over network reliability and uptime
  • Oversee the function and availability of the Point Broadband’s service provider network infrastructure, with a team of network engineers and administrators supporting daily operational duties and long term projects and initiatives.
  • Drive automation and instrumentation in an effort to reduce manual intervention and ultimately build a software driven network.
  • Manage team to measurable key-performance indicators and service levels.
  • Manage and support the entire service provider network, including:
  • Production Service Provider infrastructure for
    • Core network equipment
    • Access network equipment
    • Servers systems and tools
    • Mission critical systems to support the service provider network
    • Support and provisioning systems (DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc)
    • Network and Element Management systems
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with engineering teams, network equipment vendors and third party carriers.
  • Define and evolve a multi-year roadmap for network assurance, monitoring, and automation
  • Manage enterprise-wide DDOS defenses.
  • Manage enterprise-wide network routing, switching, and firewalls, from configuration, change management, and monitoring.
  • Support 24/7 operations with crisis management, including:
    • Hands-on troubleshooting and crisis team leadership.
    • Communication to peers and executives with relevant progress updates and resolution steps.
  • Ensure the highest level of service for the Network Operations Center’s external and internal customers by working alongside other NOC team members.
  • Challenge team members to perform at the highest possible level.
  • Think strategically and evaluate options in the short, medium and long term.
  • Cope in a technically complex and fast-changing environment, and to respond calmly and rationally to changing aspirations in a deadline-driven situation.

Required Skills:

  • Deep understanding of network technologies, including:
    • Dynamic routing: BGP, EIGRP, HSRP, OSPF, STP
    • OSI network layers
    • IPv4 and IPv6
    • Network Virtualization with VLANs, Cisco VPCs, VDCs, network fabrics
    • IPSec/IKE VPN, HTTPS VPN
    • DDOS mitigation techniques
    • Network protocols: telnet, FTP, NFS, CIFS, SMB, LDAP, HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, SMTP, SNMP, NTP, SIP, RTP
    • WAN connectivity best practices and strategies
    • MPLS, IPVPN, QoS, policy based routing
    • Packet and netflow analysis
    • Packet replication, flow diversion for security monitoring
    • Wireless networks
    • Disaster Recovery planning and testing
    • TCP and UDP stack tuning in multiple operating systems
    • Application level networking (code implementation and troubleshooting)
    • Network performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent crisis management skills.

Education:

Bachelor degree in related field is preferred with a preference for Computer Science and Engineering related disciplines. Related industry certifications are a plus.

Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of service-provider experience in either telecommunications, video or broadband is required. A strong background in data-network administration is required. Experience in computer science, information technology, network engineering, in-bound contact centers, business management or related is required. Experience with fiber-to-the-premise and fixed-wireless networks is a plus. Experience with service-provider networks (carrier) is a plus.
