Based in West Point, GA


Point Broadband is seeking a Director of Outside Plant Engineering & Construction, based in West Point, GA.  This position is responsible for overseeing the entire company's OSP Engineering and Construction activities. The position reports to the COO and works closely with the local GM and Engineering and Construction departments. Activities include, but are not limited to, establishing and implementing the company's overall OSP Engineering and Construction practices in multiple locations across various footprints. 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following but are not limited to -

  • Oversee the construction and engineering activities across the entire enterprise.
  • Establish best practices for engineering, construction, equipment and system architecture across the enterprise.
  • Review all major construction projects in conjunction with our finance department for approval.
  • Oversees planning and executing work, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various types and phases of construction to meet company guidelines.
  • Oversees the execution of approved new build, rebuild and upgrade projects within the company, including planning, tracking, budget compliance, certification, workforce management and adherence to company construction standards.
  • Establishes and maintains strong communication and good working relationships with all market Leadership and Engineering and Construction teams.
  • Ensures all markets are maintaining accurate as-built maps.
  • Oversee the timely preparation of construction proposals and cost analysis for internal and external projects.
  • Assists in the management of inventory and forecast needs required to meet company objectives.
  • Ensures the local markets are managing OSP engineers and construction personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and ensure construction standards.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adherence to construction schedules.
  • Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and maintains work schedules.
  • Ensures the company conducts construction activities within federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Thorough knowledge of a broadband communication organization, administration, standards, regulations, and rules.
  • Familiarity with FCC, state PUC and OSHA specifications, regulations, and standards.
  • Understanding of broadband communication technology, materials and equipment.
  • Able to develop and justify budgets, cost estimates and work/equipment recommendations.
  • Understand thoroughly the concept and scope of broadband network plant operations, demand and problems.
  • Accepts responsibility for independent decisions and works with minimal supervision.
  • Able to analyze and solve problems with sophisticated test equipment.
  • Able to prepare company regulatory and industry compliance reports.
  • Continues education in technological developments and industry standards.
  • Experience with both Capital and Operational budgeting, preparation and control.

Education/Experience

Knowledge and skills usually acquired through a bachelor's degree in engineering, specialized training, and five to seven years of experience in broadband network plant operations and senior management/operations experience.

Computer Skills

MSOffice software, Internet and e-mail; technical database software as required.

The employee generally works in an indoor office environment but occasionally works out of doors, in all types of weather and on uneven terrain. Some travel is required.
