Summary:

Responsible for assisting in the installation and service of commercial products.  Assist in training Field Service Tech’s.  Help maintain a timely turn-around of commercial site surveys and installation availability. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Performs aerial and underground commercial, industrial, institutional, and MDU cable, data, & telephony installations following Sunset specifications and industry practices
  • Trouble-shoot and repair problems in HFC networks
  • Test, balance, align and adjust components, cables and equipment used to amplify and process signals in both directions (Downstream and return path) including system sweep.
  • Perform maintenance, testing and repair on HFC network power supplies
  • Splice and activate fiber optic cables, nodes, transmitters and receivers
  • Maintains and tracks flow of customer premise equipment necessary to perform daily work assignments
  • Completes installation and configuration of commercial CPE ensuring customer education and satisfaction of services installed
  • Installs NIC cards and drivers for cable modems including the ability to update files if needed to properly configure a customer’s computer for modem service
  • Installs various EMTA’s, verifies tip & ring, completes proper punch down of copper telco cables
  • Has a general understanding of commercial phone systems and the vendors that service them, such that they are able to provide guidance/advise for customers having problems with their phone system
  • Assist in training activities
  • Perform emergency fiber restoration
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Identify and report all incidents of non compliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA and Sunset standards)
  • Assure system security by following company procedures 
  • Provide superior customer service
  • Complete all tasks to Sunset quality standards
  • Represent Sunset in a competent and professional manner to all customers, associates, and outside organizations
  • Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times
  • Maintain excellent attendance
  • Responsible for motor vehicle per company policy including equipment & tool inventory, vehicle security and vehicle maintenance
  • Identify and repair any and all instances of signal leakage to ensure system conforms to F.C.C. Cumulative Leakage Index requirements and company standards
  • Perform plant serviceability surveys
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include cross functional assignments

Education:

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Basic knowledge of electronics and working knowledge of the operation of an HFC network are required. Two to four years of experience and related associate’s degree (or equivalent in training and experience) is preferred.

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 3 years of CATV/telco installation experience with commercial applications
  • Strong knowledge of wall fishing and commercial construction practices
  • Able to present technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to accurately measure distances using tapes and other measuring devices
  • Able to use assigned test equipment including but not limited to signal level meter (SLM), leakage detector, volt ohm meter, sweep receiver, underground locater and TDR
  • Able to prioritize and organize assignments and responsibilities
  • Able to accurately maintain records, logs, reports, work orders, etc.
  • Able to operate office equipment, fax, copier, etc.
  • Able to handle escalations and time-critical issues
  • Able to read street maps and system design prints.
  • Able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends and on-call shifts
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills are required including internet and email

  • Ability to work in poorly vented areas such as attics, in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to move, crawl, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, and grasp
  • Ability to lift up to 90 pounds
  • Physically able to work computer equipment and test equipment
  • Ability to work in environments that may have dust, dirt, noise, insects and cleaning solutions
  • Ability to work safely near power lines and electrical equipment
  • Ability to drive Company vehicles in a safe manner
  • Must be able to meet the physical limit requirements of personal protective equipment, aerial lift equipment, ladders and/or gaffs that may be used in this position.
