Summary:

Point Broadband is currently seeking an engineer to join our Engineering and Architecture team that is focused on network automation and network intelligence efforts throughout the Service Provider environment. This person will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of our software defined infrastructure – including partnership with other technical areas to align on roadmap and vision. This role will drive the vision for our “self-driving” infrastructure goals and will work with team members to develop the roadmap to attain that vision. This position will need to partner with the subject matter experts across the teams to work closely with them to document use cases and requirements in support of automating the needs of those teams. This individual will also be responsible for collaborative work efforts with various teams to deliver timely and effective solutions that correspond with Point Broadband’s technology architecture direction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:

  • Focus on developing platform for Zero Touch Provisioning and Zero Touch Replacement infrastructure.
  • Deploy and Build centralized tools to increase network visibility, alarm correlation and network state awareness.
  • Drive the Use Case development for infrastructure tooling, orchestration, and automation for technology services infrastructure at Point Broadband.
  • Looking toward a future of highly orchestrated and automated network deployment, participate in design and roadmap formulation of integrated solutions across the service provider network
  • Provide input into long-range networking requirements and operational guidelines, with a focus on automation and improving the performance and reliability of the network and the overall service.
    Partner with Technology teams (Architecture/Eng/Ops) to design next generation features and their impact on the network.
  • Formulating and implementing standards related to network hardware with respect to monitoring, management, automation and orchestration.
  • Help drive the vision of Point Broadband’s Self-Driving technology infrastructure.
  • Coordinate closely with architects and technology leads from other technology areas, while leveraging subject matter experts from any needed technical or business area.
  • Collaborate with members of the business, project teams and technical staff as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
  • Project solution architecture experience

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 5+ years scripting and developing software in languages such as Java, Python, Golan, Perl, Ruby or equivalent.
  • Experience working with or creating API’s and understanding data transport and serialization formats such as SOAP, XMLRPC, REST, JSON, YAML, etc.
  • Familiar deploying open source software
  • Familiar with streaming telemetry software such as Kafka
  • Experience with the automated deployment of network infrastructure – routers, switches, load balancers, in high availability, service provider or data center applications.
  • Understanding of infrastructure protocols (BGP, OSPF, ARP, VRRP, DHCP, TCP, UDP), IP addressing (especially IPv6), and application protocols (LDAP, SMB/AFP, SMTP, HTTP, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity with the state of network technology, and versed in virtualization, SDN, and similar constructs e.g. familiarity with Contrail, Nuage, and similar network virtualization frameworks.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to and learn new technologies both development framework and technology advancements.
  • Experience taking network technical requirements such as RFCs et al and turning them into functional use case requirements for delivery to developers for network tooling, orchestration, and automation outputs.
